Several Colours Of Semen And Their Health Indications

According to NHIS, the semen is usually about 5ml of liquid during an ejaculation, there may be more if a man has not ejaculated for a long period of time. In a single ejaculation, 100 million to 300 million sperm cells are been released. When the cells gets to a female egg, fertilisation occurs and a woman gets pregnant.

The colour of a man's semen can often indicate the status of his health. In a healthy man, the colour should be clear to whitish grey. Sometimes it can be pale yellow, that is if a man has not passed out urine prior to ejaculation. As a man it is very important for you to pay attention to the changes in your semen colour. If you observe a different colour for a couple of days, you should not ignore it, but rather seek for medical attention. Let me now show you some negative colours of semen and their health indications.

1. Red Colour Semen

If you are having a rusty red or pink colour semen, then you should know that something is definitely wrong. Any reddening of a man's ejaculate, especially if it persists for a long period of time, should be diagnosed by a doctor, as it simply indicates the presence of blood in it. This may be as a result of inflammation caused by Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI), or other infections and medical conditions such as prostate cancer etc. Common causes of blood in the semen (haematospermia) could also indicate a severe high blood pressure, a blood clotting disorder or certain cancers.

2. Yellow Colour Semen

Apart from the urine in the urethra giving the semen a yellow tint, this condition can also be an indication of other health issues. These issues includes jaundice, high white blood cells or sexually transmitted infections. A yellow coloured semen can also arise as a result of eating foods that contain yellow dye, or infrequent ejaculation. Side effects of some medications can also result to a man having a yellow ejaculate.

3. Green Colour Semen

A green coloured semen can be a sign of a potential infection of the prostate or surrounding tissues. A prostate infection is a condition whereby bacteria in your urine leaks into the prostate.

If you are experiencing any of these three colours in your semen, then you should seek for a medical attention from your doctor or health care provider.
