Anytime we are discussing about the topic "health", most times it is fitness and nutrition that gets most of the attention. Little or no attention is been giving to "sleep", but this time let me bring you attention to it because sleeping have lots of health benefits to you. Recent scientific studies have delved into the details of sleep and why it is good for you. Here are some benefits you can derive from sleeping.
5 health benefits of sleeping
1. Improves memory retention
Memories and skills that were practiced are consolidated when you sleep. If you are trying to learn something, you need practice. But research has now shown that something happens in sleep that makes you learn tasks better.
Too much or too little sleep makes our lives shorter. In a 2010 research study, more deaths occurred in women who slept less than five hours or more than six and a half hours per night.
If you compete, sleep may improve your performance. A study found that football players who tried sleeping at least 10 hours per night for eight weeks, improved their sprint times and had less fatigue and more stamina. How is that for an exercise intervention?
4. Weigh healthy
Researchers at Chicago found that dieters who were well rested lost 56 percent more fat than those who were sleep deprived, although those who were sleep deprived lost muscle mass resulting in the same amount of net weight loss.
Dieters who did not sleep as much experienced more hunger pangs as well. “Sleep and metabolism are controlled by the same sectors of the brain,” a particular Dr. Rapoport says. “When you are sleepy, certain hormones go up in your blood, and those same hormones drive appetite.”
The health benefits are quite numerous, but i am stating just a few. Feel free to add yours by commenting below.
